The Maude Kerns Art Center presents “OBJECT/FORM,” featuring work by Farley Craig, Sarah Sedwick, and Gabriella Soraci, opening with a public reception on Friday, April 8, from 6 – 8 pm. The exhibit showcases figurative work and still lifes by these three local artists. “OBJECT/FORM” is on display through Friday, May 6.

Farley Craig, who is an instructor at the Maude Kerns Art Center (MKAC), has classical atelier training from the Studio Incammanati in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has shown locally at the Emerald Valley Art Center and in the Art for All Seasons Membership Show at MKAC, as well as at the Bijou Theatre and Capella Market, where he had solo exhibits. In “OBJECT/FORM,” Craig exhibits both figurative paintings in oil and figurative sculptures. His objective is “to capture something deep inside, not just an image, but the vivacity of the person.”

Sarah Sedwick, who was part of the Art Center’s “Settings and Stills” exhibit in 2011, shows recent still lifes, portraits, and figurative paintings in oil. Sedwick earned a BFA from Maryland College of Art (2001). She has exhibited her work locally at the Jacobs Gallery, Oregon Art Supply, Emerald Art Center, the Gallery at the Watershed, and at the University of Oregon’s Adelle McMillan Gallery. She is represented by the Brackenwood Gallery Fine Arts in Langley, Washington. Sedwick paints from direct observation “in gratitude for the simple beauty of the everyday.”

Gabriella Soraci holds a BFA from the University of Oregon and an MFA from the University of California, Davis, where she was a teaching assistant for well-known American painter Wayne Thiebaud. She has exhibited her paintings nationwide, including in New York City at the First Street Gallery, Prince Street Gallery, and the Bowery Gallery. Soraci, who focuses on still lifes characterized by a particular light, mood, or feeling, says of her work: “I look for objects, materials, and spaces that can provide both a perceptual experience, and a poetic one.”
